| Résumé : |
This is a book of fourteen papers by authors from ten different countries. Eight of them deal with the analysis of structural response to earthquake excitation, four with
features of earthquakes, one with the development of an expert system for risk analysis and one with site response analysis.
The analytical papers cover a wide range, from a proposal to reduce the response of structures by a predictive control technique to a consideration of the Lagrange multiplier technique in the analysis of coupled shear walls. Some of the papers may perhaps be open to criticism for modelling structures in one dimension only with many degrees of freedom when three dimensions and fewer degrees of freedom might be more realistic. Among the earthquake papers the one by Ambraseys and Adams, ‘Long term seismicity patterns in seismically quiet areas’, is interesting not only for its title matter but also for the section on the evaluation of seismicity catalogues with examples of gross errors, mislocations of early events and modern misinterpretations. A paper by Duarte Earthquake vibration modelling using Gaussian processes’ has the misfortune that the graphs of Figure 1 are printed in order opposite to that of their titles. It has an interesting comment on the spatial variation of earthquake motio |
